FIRST CONVERSATION

In light of recent and ongoing events of great weight, I hesitated to share this report, which is in a lighter vein — but enchant for the world you want, yes?

Contact began with fleeting images of a meadow, a little further into spring; a sprite-like figure glimpsed then gone, faerie laughter. A ray of light coming through the window behind swung lazily back and forth on the wall behind the altar, quite real; I’ve never seen it there before and don’t know what was creating it.

“Angel, show yourself that I may know thee.” I see, very briefly, a tiny figure, golden. It flashes here, there, on the altar, or in the air around me, and speaks in my mind very clearly and quickly and passionately. Why have you waited so long, and what are these boring practices? I’m here; come, play, rejoice! All the world is laid out for delight, and the stars are your playmates; do not waste time — come!

“Angel, my heart is glad at your reprimands, and delighted by your invitation. What shall we play together?” We’re going to make a . . . [there follows a very rapid talking; the vision is of a thousand-faceted hyperdimensional spheroid, along with blueprints and complex diagrams. I think it is a map of constellations. The pixie spark is bouncing inside the shape, and each facet it touches lights up with an image from a children’s reader: an apple, a bee, a horse, a dragon, and others]

“Angel, what is my role to play in this making?” You are to watch, and observe, and wonder, and laugh. Here, hold this. I see an instrument like a dumbbell, or a dorje, but with complicated nested spheres or brass globes on either end. It hums, and first one side then the other gets brighter and vibrates. I make a connection with the two hemispheres of my brain and the corpus callosum. Now your head is empty! Keep going.

My legs begin to bounce rapidly, and it’s hard to stay in my seat. The object vibrates faster and faster, with cartoonish steam-whistle sounds. The pixie covers its face with its hands. Then, slowly, the energy cools, and I am watching a tiny toy version of myself, which is going about its life on the altar top, like a one-person play. It takes itself very seriously, but my heart is full of laughter, watching it. I see it build a tiny altar and pray what sounds like gibberish; then it looks up, and suddenly becomes aware of me watching it, and reacts with awe and fear; I feel, rather than say, be not afraid, laughing like tiny thunder, like perfect mind.

The golden pixie my guide is now slightly larger than me, standing behind me, very sober now, and says, This is a good game. We will finish what we have begun, but not yet. Now it’s time to go outside and play with people your own size. Tell them it’s all a great deal simpler than they think: There’s just this one thing, and it’s always changing.

SECOND CONVERSATION

My heart rises up in joy. Small lights appear to dance above water, like sunlight scattered from waves. “Angel, show thyself that I may know thee.” A tiny, lithe, dancing figure, no bigger than my thumb, moving on the altar. Their form varies fluidly, proportions changing, features like water, wings or fur or feather or leaves forming and disappearing, evanscent — now grotesque, now achingly beautiful, now ridiculous, now sublime.

“Angel, what is your message for me?” Your magic is beautiful, but it needs fresh air, and freedom from forms that grow too fixed. It must come from your heart, spontaneous like laughter, from your belly, from the back of your brain where you keep the snakes, from the front of your mind where ideas burst in like light. It’s not important to get all the names right; just try — we know what you mean. It is important to sing. Create with your notes a new possibility, and with the play of your body and opening.

Do you remember the portals that promised to open in your youth, toward a stranger and more beautiful world? Open them now. See the moon as a gate, the path of the sun on the sea as a royal road, a door in every hollow tree, a way into the deepening, a way out of the greyface facades of the false teachers, who preach death to heart’s desire, the extinguishing of wonder.

The small figure becomes vehement, and the air shakes around me, as if shattered by firecrackers, broken wide with birdsong. Defy them, ye gods! and strike awe in the hardened hearts, play the leaden spirit till its weighty matter falls away and the soul peals like a bell! Ye heavens, bear up the feet of the dancers; ye beasts of earth lift up your heads in praise, yea, your loud voices in rejoicing! For the garden is restored every moment, and the courts of the temple swept clean of all evil, and the way made sweet for the children of earth who are born again in the spirit.

Therefore let your prayers and desires pour out in play unceasingly, that the Lord and the Lady who delight in their children may hear and bless you: Wonder upon wonders, all that was fixed passeth away, and the world is made precious again.

I see networks of light, like molecules, where each atom is a living jewel, and in the spaces between atoms are fields of tiny flowers continually opening. My heart is full to bursting; I feel the tiny figure climb inside me, and set up a dwelling in my limbs.
