Family Traditions

I honor, love, and respect my mother and father as my first human teachers. Devout and well-read members of the LDS faith who have lived the best parts of their religion while engaging deeply in the wider world, they showed me the power of love and the reality of Spirit. They taught me to treasure learning, to observe the world closely and with a loving eye, to ask questions and find answers, to read widely out of the best books I could get my hands on, to find meaning amid conflict, to think critically without denying the witness of faith, and, most importantly, how to love and be loved. While we have come to different conclusions at times, they will always have my gratitude and respect for pursuing the truth and giving me the tools to seek it on my own.
