It is great good fortune to go down
As the sun goes down, prosperous and smooth,
Behind the veil of the earth
Bringing light to what is beneath
Just beyond our shared horizon.
—
It is my great good fortune to go down:
To bow at night’s coming,
To be brought low and laid to rest.
Under the weight of dreams I go down.
—
You dark lovers of my shadow-soul,
Lay me low in your velvet gloaming.
Take me deep under your covers.
Bury me sleep-slain, shrouded in spirit’s kisses,
Receive my gravity and let me down easy,
To where the light still shines,
Somewhere the other side of night’s horizon:
This is great good fortune.
