A Ritual Structure
The first hour is from sunset, the sun or moon being in Cancer or Pisces. Be in a room safe from all eyes and with a view toward the east, and if it be a door it is better. Let the altar be red, and a black well thereon, with seven fires about, and twelve white cups; and before and about you every instrument of art, and a strong circle about the space, and recognize the powers of the four elements in the three worlds.
Declare what it is that you will do before the sun rises. Pour out water seven times into twelve cups, naming the genii in their hours, all at once, before beginning.
Greet the dawn to come. Then begin.
