The god Freyr, who gave his other name to the rune Inguz and the English people, is the brother of Freya of golden fame, son of the fisher-god and the Lady Erde, who was King of Elfland by birthright. He rides the golden-bristled boar who shines in darkness, gift of the dwarves, and carries Skíðblaðnir, who carries him and all the gods and fits in a pocket. He is seed and sower, hunter and hunted. Where is his sword, which fought for itself? He gave it up for love and so will fall to fire at the death of the gods. Yet his nine long nights are not for naught, for I think he found the giant’s gold he sought, and brings peace and good harvest till Ragnarok, and with the bloody antler defeats the Roarer before his fall.
